Welcome to Desert Divers Dahab
Maybe you have heard about Dahab? The amazing Bedouin Village where desert mountains meet the sea.
Travel guides call Dahab the Alternative Red Sea or Alternative Egypt. We call it home, and we love telling the Dahab story.
Dahab in the 80s
Dahab first made it onto the traveller’s map in the 1980s, when backpackers heard stories about the old hippie trail. They found a magic combination of palm tree beaches, coral reef and Bedouin life.
Hagg Ali built his first huts (‘khoshas’) so that this new sort of guest would have somewhere to stay, and slowly the first scuba divers and windsurfers started to arrive.
Desert Divers’ Said Khedr also arrived in Dahab around this time. You can read more about these early days in Said’s ‘Personal History of Dahab‘.
Today’s Dahab: Adventure Sports capital of Egypt
World-class scuba diving and windsurfing, coupled with an international airport in Sharm El Sheikh and a growing population of Bedouin working in tourism, gave birth to today’s Dahab.
As tourism grew, people found even more things to do in Dahab! Young Egyptians today will tell you that Dahab is the adventure sports capital of Egypt, and we’re super proud to have been part of it from the beginning.
Today, you can dive, climb, trek, freedive and stay with us!
